Where is Busua Beach Resort Located?

Golden Beach Hotel voted the best Leisure Hotel in West Africa (Akwaaba Leisure Awards 2007), Busua Beach Resort is nestled between Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) and Accra Ghana’s capital city.

Positioned on several acres of natural sandy beaches overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Busua boasts of 62 luxurious rooms and suites in chalet style and restaurants with mouth-watering cuisine. Location: PO Box 80 Agona Ahanta Western Region, Ghana

Busua is a small fishing village in the Western Region’s Ahanta West District in Ghana. The funny thing is the Western Region is located in the south of Ghana instead of the west!

This region has 22 districts in total and one of them is Ahanta’s west district. Busa village is located 30 kilometers west of Sekondi-Takoradi which is the capital of the region.

The fishing village is beautiful because of its long sandy beach and taking advantage of that exotic beauty, a beach resort was established.

The famous beach resort Busua is in the Busua village. Although we are calling it a village, it has more than 5000 people living inside and is officially classified as a town.

The people there speak a language called the Akan language in the Ahanta dialect.

The resort itself is found between Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire or ivory-coast, and Accra, the capital of Ghana. It’s placed on the sandy beach of a few acres.

Busua Beach Resort History

Busua Beach Resort

Busua beach resort has more than 40 years of history behind it. In the 1960s the town was only a resort for rich people from Sekondi-Takoradi. The western (mostly Europeans) tourists started to visit the sea beach. But there was no electricity nor running water available back then not until the 1990s.

There wasn’t much accommodation back then. Only a small bungalow was established as the only building for the resort. There is no coconut tree in the town currently because of something that happened in the 1990s. The whole area of the town was overwhelmed by palm disease which ultimately killed the coconut trees.

In the 21st century, Busua is now equipped with a full electricity supply system. Unlike back then when you could only have electricity from the generator on the weekends.

The development has caused several establishments of restaurants, lodges, resorts, real estates, and bungalows.

In 2007 Busua beach resort won the Akwaaba Leisure Awards for the Best Leisure Hotel in West Africa. Currently, it’s a 3-star international standard resort.
